Beermen take on Baguion and Slammers F1Rk

EX-SAN Miguel point guard Froilan Baguion will be one of the major concerns for the Beermen’s defense as they face the Chang Thailand Slammers in the Asean Basketball League on Wednesday at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok.

The Beermen, holding a 2-2 win-loss card at third place, hope to bounce back from a stinging setback to the defending champion Indonesia Warriors when they battle the Slammers at 7 p.m. (8 p.m. Manila time).

San Miguel squandered a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter before bowing to the Warriors, 98-96, in overtime right in front of the Beermen’s home fans at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Beermen take on the Slammers side that are coming off a 77-65 win over the Westport Malaysia Dragons last February 2 for only their second win in five outings.

Baguion played for the SMB squad last season but before that, he was a champion with the Philippine Patriots and the Slammers.

San Miguel coach Leo Austria knows what Baguion can bring to the team and expects him to play very well against his former squad.

“Galing siya sa San Miguel so I think he will be motivated,” said Austria, hours before leaving for Bangkok on Tuesday. “He is playing very well at siya ang nag-didictate ng tempo ng team.”

Austria, who is also wary of the Slammers’ imports Michael Earl and Christien Charles, said that his team is definitely motivated to bounce back from their defeat against Indonesia.

“Kita ko ’yung determination ng mga players dahil we have to bounce back hard dahil natalo kami sa homecourt namin,” said Austria.
