Asi Taulava is still in high demand at the ripe old age of 40.
Fresh off winning Most Valuable Player of the ASEAN Basketball League and leading San Miguel Beer to a win over the Indonesia Warriors in their best-of-five finals series, the veteran slotman has gotten a lot of buzz in the international basketball scene.
Chinese Basketball Association club Foshan Long Lions has expressed interest in signing Taulava after his tour of duty.
Taulava’s agent Sheryl Reyes revealed an email from Norman Desilva, an assistant coach of the Lions who also serves as a translator for the team, inquiring about Taulava’s availability after the ABL tournmament.
“He’s inviting us to come over so that Asi can check the facilities,” Reyes told InterAKTV in a telephone interview. “Normally, six months ang ibinibigay nilang contract, but they want to offer Asi to play for one year.”
According to Reyes, it was the team’s general manager who asked about Taulava’s services.
The Long Lions is the same team that signed naturalized Filipino player Marcus Douthit last season.
Taulava joined the Beermen after spending last season with the Meralco Bolts in the PBA. He has also expressed a desire to return to the Philippine league, with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel at the top of his wish list.
