Asi Taulava has had a decorated career in international play, representing the Philippines in the Asian Games in 2002 and 2010 and the FIBA Asia Championship in 2007, 2009, and 2011.
The 40-year-old center is willing to don Philippine colors once more in the San Miguel Beermen push through with its stint to represent the country in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup.
“Yes sir, I will be more than happy to (play for the Philippines),” wrote Taulava in a text message to InterAKTV.
By virtue of winning the ASEAN Basketball League title, the Beermen are expected to be granted a berth in the region’s top club competition, which is slated in September in Amman, Jordan.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas is planning to get in touch with FIBA Asia leadership to pave the way for the Beermen’s stint.
It remains to be seen, however, if Taulava will still be part of the Beermen come September. He has expressed his wish to join Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the PBA and has also drawn interest from a Chinese club team.
