    BARANGAY GINEBRA
    February 1996

CABANATUAN City, one of the places acknowledged to be one of the Philippines' "Ginebra Countries", saw the best of Ginebra San Miguel last week when it crushed sister team San Miguel Beer, 113-76, to the ecstasy of Novo Ecijanos.
The Araullo Gym was hot and packed with 5,000 fans who were obviously there to see the Gins play with more or less complete lineup with the addition of Marlou Aquino, Bal David, reserves Michael Orquillas and Teroy Albarillo.
For Ginebra, to crush SMB by 37 points is something to crow about. While it is true that the game was only an exhibition for a charity cause, the result was enough to cause alarm to the Beermen, particularly team manager Ed Veneracion who said his team must wake up, most especially because Allan Caidic is in sick bay and Samboy Lim won't be back for at least four months.
The Gins' confidence was at its best as the youngsters toyed with their enemies relentlessly, led by the Twin Towers of EJ Feihl and Marlou Aquino who patrolled the center and frontline to allow hotshooting Vince Hizon, Noli Locsin and Pido Jarencio some room. not to be outdone was Bal David, who is out to prove himself as one of the best shooting point guards this early.
The Gins played all of their regular men, including the father and son pair of Robert and Dudut Jaworski. The duo of Robert Sr. and Jr. playing together was a bonus part. Dudut shot a triple and finished with five points. It was behemoth Aquino who led all scorers with 17 and Bal David with 11. Locsin and four other also came off with double digits.
If the Novo Ecijanos reacted wildly to their well-loved hero's action, how much more for the fans in Metro Manila who are likely to come in droves on Feb.18?
Expect 1996 to become a banner year, most especially if Robert Jaworski and his team perform excellently. They are hungry for a win - a title to speak of in the 90s. It's been so long, the fans have waited too long for the Gins to come out of the rut. This is the time for them to show their never-say-die attitude which has been their trademark for so long.
