Luigi Trillo will be leaving as coach of Cebuana Lhuillier in the PBA D-League, Gems team manger Beaujing Acot told InterAKTV late Saturday.

“He is leaving for greener pastures,” said Acot of Trillo’s decision. “He has already talked to our boss, Jean Henri Lhuillier about his plans. We still don’t know yet who will be our next coach.”

Apart from his job with Cebuana Lhuillier, Trillo also serves as an assistant coach for the Alaska Aces in the PBA.

According to Acot, Trillo will coach his last game for the Gems on Thursday against the Boracay Rum Waves.

Another member of the Cebuana Gems coaching staff, Tony Dela Cruz, is also expected to leave the team. Dela Cruz became Trillo’s assistant this conference after getting clearance from Alaska management, who allowed the player to dabble in coaching while recovering from his slipped disc injury.

With news of Trillo’s departure from Cebuana, Alaska officials refused to answer questions from InterAKTV about the status of the Aces’ coaching staff. The team underwent major change prior to the season with Tim Cone leaving after 22 years. Veteran assistant coach Joel Banal signed a three-year deal to take over the reins as Alaska coach prior to the start of the season.

But the Aces stumbled in its first tournament under Banal, finishing ninth in the Philippine Cup, its worst result in an all-Filipino conference in franchise history. Alaska improved in the Commissioner’s Cup, placing fifth after losing in three games to Barako Bull in the quarterfinals.
