GABE Freeman will sit out San Miguel's next outing against the Westports Malaysia Dragons on Saturday after being slapped with a one-game suspension by the ABL.
The ABL also slapped Freeman with an undisclosed fine for ‘unsportsmanlike conduct and unnecessary and excessive physical contact’ during the Beermen’s 66-55 win over Jobstreet.com Singapore Slingers last Sunday.
Freeman elbowed Slingers’ Desmond Ho which led to a scuffle in the third quarter. Singapore import Kyle Jeffers was also suspended for his involvement in the fracas.
Freeman’s absence could be crucial as the Beermen hope to break their roller-coaster ride and win their first back-to-back games of the season against the Dragons at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
San Miguel has also made a recent import change when it took in Matt Rogers in place of the injured Brian Williams.
San Miguel’s Michael Burtscher, meanwhile, was also fined by the league for criticizing league officials via Twitter in comments he posted in early February.
All parties will be given 36 hours to appeal.
