05coach-
Yoyoy Villamin was part of the Apcor players recruited by Crispa in 1981 along with Mon Cruz, Bai Cristobal and Padim Israel.
While serving as a backup forward for Philip Cezar, it was during the time of Tommy Manotoc as coach of the Redmanizers in 1983 that The Bicolano Superman rose to prominence.
There, he was utilized as one of the anchors of the defensive group. When Crispa disbanded at the end of the 84 season, Villamin became even a force to reckon with. He played solidly up front with Beer Hausen/Manila Beer.
Perhaps, Villamin's shining moments came in 1987, when he wound up as runner-up to Abet Guidaben in the Most Valuable Player derby. One of the most durable forwards, Villamin's career lasted until 1997 and if not for the series of injuries, including a career-threatening knee injury, he would have lasted even more.
