Vergel Meneses is not only the PBA's MVP for the championship series. He, too is SCOOP's MVP for his consistent performance.
Meneses thanked all the SCOOP members for the recognition but he's giving his salute to the people behind Swift.
The Aerial Voyager thinks what he has received now wouldn't be possible without the support of Joey Concepcion, Elmer Yanga and Yeng Guiao, who got him from Sta.Lucia Realty along with Zaldy Realubit.
He said he knew right from the very moment he stepped into the professional hoop that Swift was the team for him, where he could display his wares.
But one Swift cager who has hugged the limelight for awhile is the enforcer, Rudy Distrito. Distrito, if you will recall, poked Purefoods hotshot, Elmer Cabahug, in the eye, sidelining Cabahug for two playing dates.
In Game 6, he again hit two Oodles Stars in the eye. "Eye killer na nga raw si Rudy," some people commented. This time, it was pretty boy Jerry Codinera, whose right eye got swollen, and Dindo Pumaren, who lost his contact lens. The slow-mo of the incident suggested that it was intentional. The refs just didn't catch the tricky veteran doing his thing.
But Distrito, hit by criticisms for what he had done, was apologetic to all those he has "victimized" He swore to SCOOP that it was not his intention to hurt any of those three guys.
"Kaya nga ako umalis ng Ginebra, para mabago ang image ko," kids Dong. But on a serious side, Dong said he already apologized to the guys, especially to Jerry. "Alam naman niyang hindi ko 'yon sinasadya. Part of the game lang talaga 'yon."
He even mentioned the one against Cabahug. "Gagawin ko ba naman ng sadya 'yon, eh pareho kami ng manager, he said referring to Danny Espiritu.
Perhaps, it is Jerry and Dindo who could give us a better idea whether it was accidental or not. After all, the aggrieved parties knows best if there was aim to hurt them.
