SAN Miguel broke Indonesia’s seven-game winning streak with a 57-52 win over the defending champions Warriors in Asean Basketball League action on Friday night at the Tennis Indoor Senayan in Jakarta.

The Beermen, who overcame a 19-25 deficit at the half, relied on their locals to notch their third straight victory in front of the Warriors’ home crowd and improve to a 6-3 win-loss slate.

Ex-Far Eastern University standout JR Cawaling played the best game of his ABL career with 16 points including three baskets from three-point range that sparked the Beermen’s breakway in the fourth quarter.

With the victory, San Miguel closed in on the Indonesia Warriors who nonetheless remained in first place with a 7-3 card.

Chris Banchero scored a team-high 19 points, while Brian Williams had 11 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks for San Miguel, which played without Gabe Freeman due to an injury.

Former University of Santo Tomas star Jeric Fortuna also gave a good account of himself in his debut with five points and five rebounds.

Asi Taulava, meanwhile, grabbed 14 boards to make up for his paltry two points.

Chris Daniels had 16 points and 16 rebounds, while Steven Thomas had 11 points and 14 rebounds for the Warriors, who failed to keep a 34-29 lead in the third period.

Cawaling hit a triple, then tied the game at 34 before Fortuna hit a triple that sparked the Beermen to a 41-37 lead entering the final period.

The Beermen never relinquished the lead in the fourth as Cawaling hit another three for a 50-41 advantage.

    The scores:

    San Miguel (57) – Banchero 19, Cawaling 16, Williams 11, Fortuna 5, Rizada 3, Taulava 2, Thiele 1, Acuna 0, Hubalde 0, Burtscher 0.
