SAN Miguel clamped down on defense in the fourth quarter to wallop the Jobstreet.com Singapore Slingers, 73-53, on Friday for its fourth straight victory in the Asean Basketball League at the Tan Binh Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City.
The Beermen turned a closely contested game into a rout by limiting the Slingers to just eight points after they entered the fourth quarter with a 49-45 advantage.
San Miguel remained in second place with a 7-3 card as the defending champion Indonesia Warriors beat the Chang Thailand Slammers, 74-67, in the first game of the first day of the ABL Hoops Fest being held in the capital city of Vietnam.
Chris Banchero once again led the way for the Beermen with 19 points, while Brian Williams and Asi Taulava had 15 and 11 points apiece, respectively.
Justin Williams scored only seven points on his debut for the Beermen but was a force on defense when he grabbed 10 rebounds and swatted away nine shots.
The Beermen outrebounded Singapore, 42-28, with Taulava and Brian Williams also grabbing 10 rebounds each.
